Hogmanay is a Scottish celebration of the last day of the year. It's a festival tinged with sadness and regret in some ways. This track's melody was inspired by the folk song The Lowlands of Holland and the lyrics give a nod in the direction of The Wild Mountain Thyme.
lyrics
This world keeps turning round the face of the sun,
like a big old tear,
and tired as it is,
it will turn again,
into a brand new year.
So to you and yours and me and mine,
we'll raise a glass and sing of Auld Lang Syne.
But whisper this to those just passing through.
There's nothing clever about living
.............it's just what we do.
Soon summer will come creeping amongst us,
like it belongs.
This bitter cold darkness will fade away,
and we'll sing our sweet songs,
of mountain thyme and bloomimg heather,
while we lift our heads to warmer weather.
But whisper this to those just passing through.
There's nothing clever about living,
there's nothing certain about living
............it's just what we do.
It's midnight on Hogmanay,
so kiss me now or just walk away.
Forget about tomorrow,
pay no heed to yesterday.
There's only today,
and there's nothing clever about living,
there's nothing certain about living,
there's nothing easy about living
............it's just what we do.
