We walked to where the lights end, To where the silence freezes on fields. And we watched And we waited... ...nothing was revealed. Sensing something unseen we listened more closely, Beasts shifted anxiously then as suddenly stilled, So we watched And we waited... ...nothing was revealed. Returning empty along familiar black paths, Our jackets heavy, crystalled with sleet. To the vacant chink and chatter, Our clever hands stiffened red, Our soundless, sodden feet. From the window the picture shifts slowly. The moon and the clouds combine and there is the thrill. Still we watch And we wait but nothing is revealed. Here in this house there's a Hallowe'en apple smell. A girl's laughter in the streets rings like a bell. And we watch And we wait but nothing is revealed.

In those days we were still credible, We had no fear of ridicule. We walked the steets, so lovable, Life was green, it was a vegetable. Scotland was showered with shooting stars, You made a wish that made no sense, In bothies, by the braes, in bars, We laughed at your extravagance. The earth was moist beneath our feet, By brandy burns the smell of peat Was proof we owned the world that day. We could smell life and not decay. Scotland was showered with shooting stars, You made a wish that made no sense, In bothies, by the braes, in bars, We laughed at your extravagance.

Your sad girls are here again, Here at the door again, They're asking for you now by name. How do they get here? What do they come for? Your sad girls are here again. They're pale in their sorrow, Prodigious in anger, Towering in anguish, emphatic with guilt. Where are they coming from? What makes them think you belong, In the sad world of the sad girls? You never selected them, But it seems you've collected them Like bruises that bloom each day anew. This leads me to surmise, They see something in your eyes, Something that's in your eyes too.

Please, please, give us a chance, We could learn how to dance.

Barbaraville 04:33
I crawled the tourist-clogged A9, Past fields and kirks and roadside shrines. Trying to find, Something far away, I once left behind. By Kessock Bridge I stopped to weep, I'd come so far and gone too deep, Still looking to keep, An appointment from the past, a promise at last. As I came down the hill from Tore, I saw at once what lay before, I saw the oil-rigs in the firth, I felt the spinning of the Earth, I tasted blood inside my mouth, I turned around and I headed South. I hope that I will see the day, You throw yourself into Nigg Bay and wash away. I hymn your death, I curse your birth, I cast you from me to the firth. I won't go back to Barbaraville, I'll think no more on Barbaraville, I've never been to Barbaraville, There's nothing more in Barbaraville.

If you pass me in the street, I will try to stay complete, And try to swallow my pride. I'll say the first thing that I think of, And you will just smile. If by chance we two should meet, My wretchedness will be replete, But I will hold it inside. I'll make an awkward little gesture, And you will just smile.

I’ve been made blue, I’ve been lied to When will I be loved? I’ve been turned down, I’ve been pushed ‘round When will I be loved? When I meet a new girl that I want for mine She always breaks my heart in two, it happens every time I’ve been cheated, been mistreated When will I be loved? When I meet a new girl that I want for mine She always breaks my heart in two, it happens every time I’ve been cheated, been mistreated When will I be loved? When will I be loved? When will I be loved?

After the ceremony's over, And all of our guests have escaped, We'll still be wondering, won't we Darling, what all the fuss was about? After the curtain has lowered, And all of the audience fled, We'll still be wondering, won't we Darling, what all the fuss was about? After the war has abated, And all the combatants are dead. We'll still be wondering, won't we Darling, what all the fuss was about? We'll still be wondering, Long after the dust has settled.

Together 03:35
Down by the shore, I called your name, Into the face of the gale, But I did it just the same. You come and go for me, Just like the tide. Still I'm by your side. I walked alone, 'til it was light, I heard a voice far behind me, calling through the night. I'm trailing sorrow, to be it's guide. Till I'm by your side. I'll retrace my steps, Go back the way I came, But everything changes, And nothing stays the same. The sea sweeps our footprints away, It cannot be denied. Will I be by your side? Had we never met, We could never part, And what has never been, Can't leave it's trace on your heart. It may seem an old, old song, but the truth will abide. Still I'm by your side.

By dropping out, And by hesitation, By backing down, And walking away from confrontation. I feigned chasing dreams, In reality, I let them get away. By doing nothing, whilst going through the motions. By keeping calm, and keeping a tight rein on my emotions. I feigned chasing excitement, Secretly, I let it get away. Reading about history's no substitute for making it. Reading about history's no substitute for anything at all. By thinking small, And not taking chances. By staying quiet, and sitting on the sidelines at dances. I feigned chasing girls, But sadly, I let them get away.

Breathe 04:49
The greens that paint the world with life, The sunlight dancing through the trees, Remind us how we ought to be, They whisper on the breeze. Still the world is turning, Yet the world is still. The misty morning peacefulness, That dared to keep the world at bay, So briefly yet so valiantly, Oh, stay with us today. Still the world is turning, Yet the world is still. It feels like we've been running since, We first stood on the Earth, Yet the peace that we deny ourselves, Is ours by right of birth. Still the world is turning, Yet the world is still.

Your fear's trifling when we compare it with, The biological imperative. Love is a gift, so come and share it with! The only boys who ever looked at you. Your mother warned you to beware of us, She said our purpose was nefarious. Oh come on baby, don't be scared of us! We're the only boys who ever looked at you. We're even in our moods and temperaments, We're hiding here behind our instruments. Perhaps you'll take this as a compliment? We're the only boys who ever looked at you.

about

‘Aon’ is Scottish Gaelic and means ‘one’

Sighrens started as a myspace musical project conceived by two long-time friends from Stirlingshire, Scotland. It is an attempt to express the feelings and ideas associated with loss, regret, loneliness, times lost and regained, childhood memories, failed dreams and new hopes.

The songs are all Sighrens original compositions and are performed using traditional acoustic intruments such as guitar, mandolin, egg-shaker and glockenspiel. They are written and recorded quite quickly at home in the traditional lo-fi way to capture the raw feel.

The band consider the release of this album to be a little attempt to kick out against the over-commercialisation and over-production of modern music.
