Portencross (Scottish Gaelic: Port na Coise) is a hamlet near Farland Head in North Ayrshire, Scotland. The Portencross Pier was built in the era of Clyde steamer cruising but was never used much . A song about voluntary exile.
lyrics
I lost my head in the sunshine,
Took a dive from Portencross pier.
Stayed under a long time,
Dodging bricks and fishing gear.
The water softens the sunlight,
Draws the heat and filters the glare.
This floating life seems so right,
You can have it too, if you dare.
Come away with me,
Into the arms of the sea.
Haven't been home in a long time,
There's nobody who knows me there.
When I said I was leaving,
I'm not sure that they even cared.
I stuck a pin in the coastline,
It fetched me up on an Ayrshire beach,
Now I live in the sunshine,
Slip in the water to get out of reach
